Mumbai is a modern city where people can be quite open-minded and where it’s not that crazy (unless you’re stuck in traffic).
Mumbai is also known for its Bollywood culture, its slums (ever heard of Slumdog Millionaire?) and for its coastal views.
I first spent one day in Mumbai and I also ended up back there towards the end of my trip to India. I was there for three days and more importantly, I was there to celebrate Holi.

My favorite way to discover a new city is always walking. It gives me the time to understand, soak in the culture and appreciate the differences. Of course, this is the same for Mumbai too!

Visit Mumbai – Dhobi Ghat
Dhobi Ghat is an open-air laundromat! You can’t really get inside unless you pay a guide, but you can still see it from above (just before getting down the stairs).
This experience showed me another side of India – it made me realize how different it is/how beautiful it is.
Visit Mumbai – Gateway of India
The Gateway of India is an arch monument located next to the waterfront. It’s one of the city’s top attractions and you have cool photo opportunities from the big square. It’s free and definitely worth stopping for it.
The area is quite pretty and you might be surrounded by birds (which is a big bonus if you ask me!).
Visit Mumbai – Colaba Fish Market
Do You Have Your Visa For India?
Colaba Fish Market was one of my highlights in Mumbai. It does smell quite bad, but it’s a fish market, isn’t it? Personally, this was one of the best sights in Mumbai as it shows you the reality and it allows you to be closer to the friendly locals.
People were smiling a lot and it was a photographer’s heaven. I could easily have spent a couple of hours in the area but we were on a tight schedule.
Visit Mumbai – Bollywood Tour
Been there, and haven’t tried it, but if I was to come back to Mumbai, I would definitely try to be cast in a Bollywood movie. (Or at least, I would go on a Bollywood tour!)
Mumbai is the Bollywood central of India where over 100 movies are filmed each year. I’d recommend going on a guided tour to understand the famous Indian film industry!

Where to Stay in Mumbai | Best Hotel in Mumbai
We had the privilege of staying at Trident Nariman Point, which is located on the waterfront not too far from Colaba (which is a great area for shopping and eating!).
This luxury hotel was perfectly on point! It allowed us to get a smooth Indian experience where you can enjoy comfort and luxury (as well as amazing food) while you’re making the most of Mumbai during the daytime.
I loved everything about Trident Nariman Point – from the enormous breakfast to the view I had from my room!
Bonus: the staff was very helpful and lovely! It’s an excellent place if you’re looking for a place to stay in Mumbai.
