Porto Is Not Known As A Beach Destination

If you’re looking for a beach destination, then you’ll want to skip Porto. While the city isn’t too far from the beaches, you won’t find the nicest beaches (if we compare to the Algarve) close to Porto.

But, if you rent a car or are willing to use public transportation, you’ll find great beaches in the area. It can take up tp 45-60 minutes to reach the beach.

Porto Is Quite Far Up North

Porto is located quite far up north, and the weather can be pretty cool, even in the summer. If you’re looking for a warm-weather destination, you might consider visiting Lisbon or the Algarve instead. 

That said, the weather is good enough for the beach in July and August. In fact, the beaches nearby are usually crowded by locals and tourists.

Although, the location of Porto might be an issue for tourists who don’t want to do a big detour to see another city. If that’s your case, you’ll find other destinations to explore closer to Lisbon or the Algarve.

The Final Verdict: So Is Porto Worth Visiting?

Porto is a great city that offers travelers a lot to see and do, but many travelers prefer to travel around Lisbon and to the Algarve. As a result, they skip Porto altogether.

However, if you take the time to visit Porto, you’ll be rewarded with a unique experience that you won’t find anywhere else in Portugal.

So, Is Porto worth visiting? We think so! I’d always pick Porto over Lisbon – but I love avoiding the crowds.
