Looking for things to do in Tulum at night? There is plenty going on in this fun-filled town, with an eclectic selection of bars offering everything from great views to live music.

The majority of Tulum’s bars are located in either the Middle Beach Zone or the Pueblo.

If you are looking for a more stylish and sophisticated experience, then the Middle Beach Zone will suit you best.

Here, the bars tend to be on the jungle side of the road, all with outdoor seating to make the most of the views. The Pueblo bars (in Tulum town) tend to be a lot more laid back and less expensive. 

In this guide, I’ve included some of the best bars in Tulum, telling you where in the town to find them and giving you an idea of the types of entertainment and atmosphere to expect at each.

Kin Toh

This may be the best bar in Tulum in terms of visual appeal – and its tagline ‘Welcome to our Tree House’ gives you a pretty good idea of what to expect.

Outside are suspended ‘nests’ which give you truly spectacular views across the jungle, whilst inside the tables are surrounded by hand-woven curtains, still with wonderful exterior views.

Nets and hammocks are everywhere, with lanterns and bamboo lights scattered throughout, creating an almost fairy-tale-like atmosphere in which you feel at one with the natural surroundings.

Kin Toh is part of the Azulik hotel in Beach Town and serves food described as ‘Mayan avant-garde’, so there is definitely a chance here to try something new.

No swimwear is allowed here and it’s a good idea to reserve a table, particularly if you’re hoping to enjoy the views at sunset.

Be aware that there is a minimum consumption of 25 USD and that this is charged to your card when you arrive.

Gitano

Located in the Middle Beach Zone, this is one of the best Tulum bars to visit if you love mezcal!

It offers over 40 varieties from Oaxaca, along with fresh juices made from locally sourced fruits and herbs. Put the two together and you’ve got some of the best cocktails in town!

The bar has a modern and open design that integrates perfectly with its lush surroundings and you can enjoy live music early in the evenings on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays.

But if you’re in the mood to party, then Friday is the day to visit when the DJ kicks off the first set at 11 pm and the dancing continues through the night! You can dine here, too, with online reservations available.

Casa Jaguar

The best way to experience Tulum nightlife on a Thursday is to head down to Casa Jaguar in the Middle Beach Zone.

This is when it holds its wild and extravagant jungle parties out on the back terrace, with music supplied by both local and international DJs.

The fun starts at 11 and continues long into the night. There are jungle parties on a smaller scale on Tuesdays, too, and occasionally on Saturdays.

This bar has a perfect location just 50 metres from the oceanfront and has a chic, bohemian style that incorporates much of the jungle vegetation surrounding it.

The restaurant here serves great Mexican food inspired by ancient Oaxacan dishes.

Nana Rooftop Bar

Tulum is the ideal location for a rooftop bar and Nana is one of the best! It serves a large variety of mezcals from across Mexico, plus a range of cocktails made with local fruits and herbs.

The atmosphere is laid back and casual, with frequent sessions from house and electronic music DJs, and you can dance into the small hours here every night.

You will find Nana Rooftop Bar just a block back from Tulum’s main high street.

Batey Mojito & Guarapo Bar

Possibly one of the most popular Tulum bars in the Pueblo, the Cuban-themed Batey is open almost all day long and has live music nearly every night.

One of its biggest attractions is its mojitos made with fresh fruit and you can even see staff pressing fresh sugarcane in a repurposed VW Bug.

There will be flavors here that you’ve never tried before – notably the strange combination of prickly pear cactus and peppermint – along with delicious combinations like watermelon and lime.

The atmosphere is calm and relaxed earlier in the day, although things get considerably more lively into the evening, particularly on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. 

Caribe Swing

Head to the heart of the city centre to find this fun and friendly bar, serving beer, cocktails, and snacks.

Decorated throughout with colorful lights, this place is as popular with locals as it is with visitors – always a good sign – and the service is exceptional.

There is good music and dancing here every night – and once you’re worn out you can sit back and sip your drink in the venue’s quirky swinging seats.

Mateo’s Mexican Grill 

This bar/restaurant has a fantastic ambiance, with a great selection of drinks and some very good tacos!

Arranged over several levels. the bar has a rooftop deck where you can sit in awe watching the sun go down, plus a lower terrace completely filled with hammocks where you can just hang out and relax.

The decor is colorful and inviting and the atmosphere very relaxed, with frequent parties held at sunset hosted by either a DJ or a live band. You will find Mateo’s in Tulum’s Beach Zone.

Pasito Tun Tun 

Whatever vibe you are looking for, you’ll find it at this Pueblo bar, with a chilled atmosphere on the back patio with its soothing, swinging seats and a lively, fun front bar!

You’ll find a great selection of tequila here and some of the best mezcal cocktails in Tulum. At around 10 pm the live bands or DJs begin their sets, providing music to dance to into the small hours.

This is a modern bar with affordable prices, whilst the mixture of tourists and locals makes for a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.

Encanto Cantina

This Instagram-worthy bar/cafe is located in the centre of Tulum and is only open at night.

You can catch live music on Fridays after 10, which usually tends to be classical rock, and this is the place to enjoy some of Tulum’s best tacos along with your drinks!

The selection is excellent, particularly the mezcal sour which is a favorite with regulars.

The outdoor area at the back is beautifully lit, with a very romantic atmosphere, and the whole place exudes a warm and welcoming vibe that also makes it a fun place to hang out with friends. 

I Scream Bar 

Looking for something that little bit different? Then this bar in the Middle Beach Zone is the place for you!

A unique mix of bar, taco shop, and vegan ice cream shop, I Scream’s specialty is its ice cream shot, consisting of their homemade ice cream topped with mezcal or tequila!

But it’s not just the unique mix of food and drink that makes this bar so cool – it operates from a shack built entirely from the scraps of a VW bus. It even has working headlights!

The bohemian vibe, rattan chairs, and live music give off a distinctly fun, hippy vibe.
