One thing I love about Tel Aviv is that you can make the most of the city without spending too much money. Israel is known to be an expensive country, so why not try to save money when you can?
I walked everywhere in the city and it was a great way to explore Tel Aviv and soak in the Israeli vibes.
Of course, there are places where you can admire the views without spending a penny – I’m talking about Jaffa, the beaches and the markets. These places would actually be the best free things to do in Tel Aviv.
Famous Places in Tel Aviv #1: Old Jaffa
Coolest things to do in Tel Aviv
Old Jaffa is a small section just outside the city, next to the port. You can find old and charming little streets as well as a park offering great viewpoints. It’s also a great spot to watch the sunset!
You could check out Bell Cafe and sit on their balcony to admire the coastline while sipping a coffee.
What to do in Tel Aviv #2: Tel Aviv Beaches

There are a lot of beaches along Tel Aviv and it’s worth a stroll along the promenade to spot the best ones! First of all, you should know that yes, you can surf in Tel Aviv. When I was there it was pretty flat one day, and the next day the waves were tiny, but everyone was out there!
My favorite beach would be the one next to the Hilton next to the dog beach, the gay beach and the religions beach. This beach is a fabulous spot to see the sunset.
Unique Things to Do in Tel Aviv #3: Levinsky Market
Levinsky Market, Tel Aviv
Carmel Market is probably the most popular market in Tel Aviv, simply because people are not aware of Levinsky Market. We discovered Levinsky Market with BE Tel AViv Tours which is an amazing tour company. They do a lot of food tours, pub crawls, street art tours as well as market tours.
This tour covered everything about spices, pastries, drinks and other Israeli and Middle-East delicacies. We did eat a lot (a lot in Israel in general too) and it was fantastic to visit this area with a local.
My favorite stop of it all was Cafe Levinsky 41, which is super small but so charming! You can taste delicious and original drinks over there.

Abraham Hostel organizes events every week such as concerts, parties and open jams. Most events are free for guests and some others are also open to the public.

Nightlife in Tel Aviv | Where to Go Out in Tel Aviv
I had heard so many things about the nightlife in Tel Aviv that I had to experience it for myself. During my first week I joined a pub crawl which brought me to some hipster/weird/fun/unique bars. Every bar is so different and each one has a different vibe.
If you’re staying at Abraham Hostel you will, of course, have to join one of these famous pub crawls or you could also check the option offered by BE Tel AViv Tours. Going out in Tel Aviv is surely fun!
Even though I enjoyed my experience on a pub crawl, here are my two recommendations for a unique bar experience.
The Butler & Bellboy Bar

The Butler is a private party that takes place in the Bellboy Bar. We had a mixology workshop where we learned about their famous drinks and tasted many interesting and original cocktails (well, my friend did – I had virgin ones as I do not drink alcohol).
Bellboy Bar is an experience itself. It’s a unique bar with an amazing atmosphere. Seriously, even going to the bathroom is an experience. You must try some of their crazy cocktails while in Tel Aviv.
Bonus: they also serve brunch and their food is great too so you could consider this as a great option for breakfast! (I haven’t tried it, but I’m sure it won’t be disappointing!)
The Prince

The Prince is an excellent spot for drinks on their rooftop terrace. Keep in mind they also serve food as it’s also a restaurant. The coolest thing about this place is the fact that it’s located in an old building that looks like nothing, and surprise: the atmosphere is great!

I knew Israel was the land of hummus, but I didn’t know what else to expect from Israel. I was actually even a bit scared as I was never a big fan of hummus (sorry, not sorry!). Well, guys, I was amazed by the food in Israel.
I ate SO MUCH! I tried a lot of new things (which is pretty unusual for a picky eater like me) and I loved it. I even tried hummus again and I didn’t hate it!
When it comes to food in Israel there are two things to keep in mind:
- Shabbat Dinner Experience
- Eat. Eat. Repeat.
If you’re heading to Israel next, you’re about to gain weight and be overfed, but simply enjoy it.
Shabbat Dinner Experience with Betzavta

My favorite meal of it all was definitely this cool experience with Betzavta. Their concept is brilliant. They bring travelers and locals together to create a unique Israeli dinner experience.
We experienced it for Shabbat (Friday night) and we met a lovely family who hosted us for dinner.

Abraham Hostel is a great option for travelers who want to experience the Israeli culture. They organize Shabbat dinners as well as cooking workshops in their huge kitchen.
I obviously participated and I learned how to cook a Shakshuka, which is an amazing meal that is pretty popular in the Middle East.
Coolest Restaurants in Tel Aviv
Other than that, there are other food and coffee options that are worth considering while you’re in Tel Aviv.
Erez Yemenite Restaurant: A tiny restaurant next to Carmel Market which is super affordable and gives you huge portions! This was one of my favorites and it was recommended by a local.
Shakshukia: A restaurant that has a great reputation for their famous Shakshuka. This was also recommended by a local.
Miznon: Cool restaurant with street food type of meals including a bunch of pita style sandwiches.
Dinner in the Dark at Nalaga’at: Dine in the dark at the blackout restaurant for a sensorial experience.
Saluf & Sons: Located in Levinsky Market, this was one of the tastiest meals we had in Israel. It’s also where you should try hummus and pitas!
We like you, too: This was my favorite coffee shop in Tel Aviv. Pretty small and in the middle of the street, you can grab a blanket and sip your coffee sitting in the grass!
Where to Stay in Tel Aviv | Best Hostel and Hotel in Tel Aviv
I spent a whole week at Abraham Hostel which I would recommend for the backpackers, families or couples out there. They have dorms but also great private rooms. The building is huge and they provide a kitchen for those who want to cook their own meals. Their bar and rooftop are also worth hanging out around!
When I got back to Tel Aviv I spent three nights at Hotel Saul, which was a cute and new hotel right in the center of Tel Aviv. It’s a good option if you want privacy and a comfortable room!
