I had never heard of Occitania before. It is apparently in the South of France. When the tourism board said something about Lozere I had to google it.

In fact, I did visit Carcassonne years ago while I was traveling in the South of France.
I wanted to see something different. I wanted to be out there surrounded by nature, and even better if this nature could be filled with mountains.
Google created some sort of expectations for me. Lozere seemed to be gorgeous from what I could see in those photos.
And there I was booking my flights to Rodez.
As soon as I was landing I was amazed by the landscape from above.
Everything was SO green. I grabbed my rental car keys and slowly walked into the parking lot searching for this manual monster that could possibly make my life harder.
The thing is, I barely know how to drive a manual car. I learned how to drive a manual car three years ago in Australia (on the other side of the car).
This was going to be interesting and, more importantly, challenging!
If you happen to be in the Rodez airport parking lot and you saw someone spending around 10 minutes just trying to get out of the parking lot, well, that was me! Twenty minutes later, I was getting more comfortable and the landscape started to surprise me even more!
If you’d like to see something different on your next trip to France (or Europe), you may as well consider Lozere. I was pretty impressed by this region.
The views were breathtaking, people were super friendly and there are many activities for outdoor lovers! Basically, this was everything I could potentially seek for a unique trip to France!
Between the several shades of green, the “aligot” and the breathtaking views I didn’t always manage to capture, there were many charming villages I’d never heard of.

Best Time to Visit the South of France
The best time to visit Lozere would be during the summertime from June to September. Of course, you can avoid the crowds if you go during spring or autumn but it really depends if you want to be outside or not as it can be a bit colder.
As there are many trails and hikes in the region, it’s definitely warmer from June to September for those planning a little hiking trip!
