Planning on visiting Albay while in the Philippines? Here are our favorite destinations in Albay so you can make the most of your trip. Note that these places are ideal if you’re into adventures!

Sumlang Lake

Picture a lake with an amazing background; and yes, Mister Mayon is in there. Add a few rafts on top of it and please, enjoy the peaceful cruise. Clouds will flirt perfectly with the volcano and you’ll see their dancing reflections on the water.

If you’d rather use a kayak, feel free to do so. You’ll even be able to spot a few cows lurking around. (Sorry about this; I guess the dairy farmer version of me is talking out loud.)

Busay Falls

I have been chasing waterfalls for a long time already and I was stoked by the Australian ones. A waterfall is good, but two is better, isn’t it? So, what would you think of seven falls? Bonus; you can even hike around.

We managed to hike to four of them as the rain has done its job (it’s the rainy season) which makes it harder to hike safely. I’d also recommend you hire a guide as the trails can be very tricky.

The Lava Wall

We had the chance to get on quad bikes to drive around the volcano.

We crossed many rivers, met a few cows again and enjoy the views. And then, to make sure we make the most of this day, we hiked the Lava Wall… and we came down on a zip line. They call it “fun”, I call it “awesome”!

The five views

What’s better than a sunrise through the mountains? I’d say another quad bike ride and breakfast in a secret spot. This was the perfect corner to admire Mount Mayon in detail.

This activity was organized by our resort, the Misibis Bay (which is not a backpacker hostel I’m afraid!).

How to get to Legazpi

Note that there isn’t a direct bus to go from Manila to Legazpi.

Where to stay in Albay

While in Albay, we stayed at the Misibis Bay, a stunning resort on a private island.
