They said: There’s nothing like home.
As much as I love escaping routine to explore the world, I still have a place to call home (hello Canada!). To be honest, most of the time, I came back home backwards. In February, I was planning a 6 week visit to the fold. I was going to face the Canadian winter (and its true coldness), to visit family and friends, and to enjoy a comfort that I cannot find anywhere else.

After telling my best stories, I took back my little habits and I rediscovered my Canadian lifestyle. It was great to enjoy a short holiday in my holidays. I wouldn’t have thought I could have a break at home.
After a long-term trip, it feels good to have a break and to be in a stable environment for a while. Being on the road isn’t always perfect and you can even get tired of it sometimes.
As I was about to leave the country again, I tried to enjoy every last moment… Every comfy bit… Every last second with my family and friends…

Tim Horton, you got this.
Dear Tim, your coffee might not be the best in the world, but your cheap price puts you on top. After 15 months in Australia, I couldn’t say no to your coffee and Timbits for a tiny $3-4, can I?
Poutine, you still are the best.
I know you are supposed to try new food while traveling, but there’s one thing I’m always craving; good poutine. Fair enough, some places offer a lovely version of it across the globe, but, it still not as good as a real Quebecer one. I’d suggest you learn more about Quebec food to understand what the big deal is.
Maple syrup, you fit with everything.
Have you ever seen an English man dipping his French toast in barbecue sauce? Or even a waffle? I did. Shame on him! Have you ever been in a sugar shack? This my friend, is proof you need to understand that maple syrup goes with everything; eggs, bacon, potatoes, pancakes, sausages… Did I mention everything?
You still have the best jokes.
Alright. I might want to focus on French Canadians here (Sorry bro’s). (What? Am I too funny for you?) I still don’t understand all the English humor levels… but I do know one thing; Quebecers, you are hilarious.
We have no pity for your 0-degree winter.
So, you want to talk about winter? I’m just waving at my Scandinavian friends right now!
You and your bilingual twists.
Canada is a huge country with different types of Canadians; the Amerindian, the English ones, the French ones and the Red Neck. Even if you can’t understand this; French Canadians are not immigrants from France. And they don’t all speak English. Even if they use a lot of English twisty curls in their grammatically correct language.
The right side of the road.
We simply do it right. That said; that’s it!
The World loves us. (No wonder why.)
I don’t know anybody who hates Canadians. We are friendly, lovely (for the most) and we are lucky enough to have many possibilities of traveling. I’m proud to be Canadian and I don’t need to whisper it. Not like our neighbors… Did I say that out loud? I thought I was whispering. Don’t be mad; I guess you’ll just have a hard time trying to understand my French Canadian humor.
We’re still on top.
As far as I can go, Canada is still on top of my list. The Canadian Rockies stole my heart a while ago; I don’t need to convince you; turquoise lakes and mountains always make a great scene!
There’s nothing like home.
As far as I can go, I know that I can’t replace my family and my true friendships. It can’t be as good as a home-made meal, a sugar shack one, or even a poutine. It can’t be cheaper than the Tim Horton mornings. It can’t be as comfy as it is at home.
Because they were right; there’s nothing like home.
