Sydney is a lovely city, and while there are lots of things to do there, it’s also quite expensive. In this post, we will discuss affordable things to do in Sydney so you can have fun without breaking the bank.
The coastal walk between Bondi and Coogee

The best thing about it is there is an amazing cliff coastal walk between Bondi and Coogee.
We’re talking about six kilometres of magnificent views along the way. Plus, you’ll be able to spot many hidden spots (and less touristy beaches). This is a simple Instagram heaven!
Surfer watching, swimming and sunbathing
Beaches are free and I love free stuff! Enjoy the free meditation for the soul as you get a tan, swim through big waves and dream while looking at these surfers!
Of course, if you do want to surf, jump on a board and make it happen! Lots of barbecues are available along the beaches so you can eat a typical Aussie meal! Do you want to experience different beaches? Try these ones; Shark Beach, Palm Beach, Bronte, Manly and Milk Beach.
Cliff Jumping
When I was in Sydney, I had the chance to cliff jump twice! There are different spots where you can actually do it. I went to Shark Beach both times and it was great as many locals were hanging out there (and it’s not too high!).
The place is also pretty safe and you’ll be close enough to the beach.
Hyde Park
Hyde Park is an excellent spot to meet up with friends and somewhere you can have a great picnic. Right in the city centre, this massive Park is also known to be the oldest parkland in Australia.
You’ll feel like you are in the middle of nature while being still in the city.
Darling Harbour
I really enjoyed the Darling Harbour area as there are many restaurants, bars and street artists around. During the summer, you’ll enjoy the fireworks next to the bridge. At night, it’s a great location to get a view of Sydney at night.
Go on a last-minute cruise
Have you ever considered going on a cruise? Being on a cruise ship is basically being on a floating city/resort! The great thing about a cruise is that you’ll be able to enjoy other destinations while entertaining yourself with the boat features!
If the word “cruise” seems expensive, think again! Cruise lines don’t really like to leave when their ships are not fully booked. Basically, they will provide awesome last-minute deals to make sure all their cabins are occupied.
What does it mean for us? Big deals – Huge savings! Check out these last minute cruises from Sydney!
Hang out with kangaroos
Jump on a train and head to Morisset Park. The Park is free so you’ll only have to pay for your transportation. From the train, you can walk to the Park or hitch-hike your way there.
It’s the best way to finally see wildlife in Australia without going too far from the city.
Open Air Cinema
During the summer, there’s nothing better than enjoying a good movie outside! This is a popular thing to do in Australia. In Canada, we normally have a Drive-In Cinema, I think this Australian version of it makes it even nicer!
Visit the famous Opera
The Sydney Opera House is basically one of the main icons of Sydney (and probably of Australia!). Adding a special and unique touch to the skyline, it’s always impressive to see it for the very first time (and Sydney Harbour Bridge!).
Gorgeous from the outside, it’s also possible to see inside, or even better, enjoy a performance!
