Which One Should You Visit?

Yellowstone

Yellowstone Vs Yosemite

These two national parks have an abundance of breathtaking landscapes, hiking trails, and various plants and wildlife. However, there are some significant differences between the two.

Size: 3,027 km² State: California Climate: Mild winters/ hot dry summers Terrain: Glacier; Sierra Nevada Mountains

Yosemite

Yellowstone

Size: 8,991 km² State: Wyoming Climate: Cold winters & mild summers Terrain: Geothermal; Rocky Mountains

Size

Yellowstone is 3,742 square miles that spans across three states making it significantly bigger. Comparing both national parks, Yellowstone is almost triple the size of Yosemite.

Yellowstone Highlights

Believed to contain half of the world’s known hydrothermal features such as Yellowstone Caldera & Mammoth Hot Springs. Other recommendations include: Yellowstone lake, Mount Washburn, Hayden Valley & Mystic Falls.

Yellowstone is full of geologic sites, while Yosemite boasts more scenic views and waterfalls. Highlights include two active glaciers, Yosemite Falls, Mirror Lake, Nevada Falls plus over 60 day hikes and 12 miles of paved bike trails.

Yosemite Highlights

Both parks are unique and special in their own way.  However, I would say if you’re interested in geothermal activity, volcano landscapes, and wildlife, Yellowstone is your best bet. On the other hand, Yosemite is for you if you love waterfalls, epic scenic views, or rock climbing.
