Being a backpacker means many different things.  My wallet thinks it’s to travel on a tiny budget.  My friends think it’s to carry a heavy backpack. I do think it’s a mix of affordable, cheap and hard-core travel.

Being a backpacker is a lifestyle.  I’d prefer to sleep in a dorm if I can save my money and afford that crazy bungee jump in New Zealand.  I’d prefer to hitch-hike if I’m after the encounters instead of the final destinations.  I’d simply prefer to spend money on experiences instead of things!

Going home when you are a backpacker feels good at first and becomes weird after a few days.  Once you taste the luxury (and the comfort) again, you appreciate every cozy moment in your daily life. This hot shower is the best shower of your life, these old clothes get transformed into a new wardrobe and this home-made meal turns out to be fresh from heaven.

Sometimes, you simply deserve luxury and that’s okay to give yourself a break!

So, this is what happened and this is how we ended up staying at Rydges Sydney Airport for a night when I landed in Australia.  After a long flight, it’s totally alright (and worth it) to spend a night close to the airport.

Rydges Sydney Airport

Rydges Sydney Airport is located next to the Airport, and when I say next… I also mean next. You can basically walk to the hotel from the arrivals terminal.  This is the perfect spot to relax after a long flight.  (And Australia knows about long flights!)

The rooms are modern, perfectly clean and very comfy!  Our bed was simply the best thing on Earth. I was able to appreciate every bit of luxury as I knew that life in a camper-van would be far from perfect!  Well, after a night in this bed, let me tell you that our little van seems very uncomfortable… Ahem.

Bonus; our room had an amazing view!  I’m not even talking about the sea.  For a travel addict like me, a direct view of the airplanes is such a nice one!

Big bonus #2; We enjoyed a succulent breakfast buffet in the morning.  This, my friend, was an excellent start before hardcore life on the road ahead of us.

A big thanks to Rydges Hotel and for this amazing (and comfy) experience!
